CONSERVATIVES WARN OF THREAT TO LIBRARIES

City Conservative leader Councillor Wendy Thompson said it was important for people to use their local library and to remain alert for any signs of consultation on the future of each facility.

“The sad fact is that libraries have been seen as easy meat for Labour councils up and down the country who have had big savings to make, and Wolverhampton has been no exception.”

“What Labour will try to do is say they are going to close a library and then simply blame it all on the Conservative government when there’s an outcry,” added Councillor Thompson, “when the reality is that they have failed to keep the cost of their back office operations in check over a matter of years.

“If people have a library nearby, I think it will be double important that they use it regularly, and keep an eye on the notice board so that, if there is public consultation about to start, a response can be submitted as soon as possible”
